Daniel Augustus bows out of Ocala Open after missing cut
Daniel Augustus bowed out of the Ocala Open at Candler Hills Golf Club in Florida after missing the cut on Thursday.
The Bermudian professional golfer carded level-par 71 in the second round, which left him three shots shy of the cut.
Augustus’s hopes of advancing to the final round of the 54-hole event looked promising after three birdies left him at two under for the round and one under for the tournament through ten holes.
However, three successive bogeys put paid to those hopes as the former Bermuda Open winner’s struggles with the putter was again evident.
“I hit the ball good again but just didn’t read these greens very well,” Augustus told The Royal Gazette.
“I don’t have too much to be mad about. I hit the ball great and I stopped the ball on the lines that I wanted to, but I misread everything so I just have to go and continue working on my putting.”
Co-leaders Marcus Plunkett and Tripp Kinney, of the United States, hold a one-shot advantage over the rest of the field at 11 under heading into the final round.
Also among those making the cut was inaugural Butterfield Bermuda APGA Championship winner Willie Mack III, who is five shots off the lead at 6 under.
