Dwayne Pearman claims Moongate Tour victory
Dwayne Pearman savoured his first win of the year on the Moongate Tour at Port Royal Golf Course on Friday.
The experienced player carded a three-over 74, which included three birdies and six bogeys, to pip amateur Chris Ford for the title by a single shot.
“It was nice to get a victory because as you get older they don’t come as often as they used to,” Pearman, 61, told The Royal Gazette. “So you just have to try and hang in there and take them as they come.
“I am hitting the ball good enough to win so if I get the putter working then I am good.”
Pearman was at even par through 13 holes and despite bogeying three of the remaining five holes coming in did just enough to win the 18-hole medal event by a whisker.
“I actually hit it really good; wasn’t in any trouble and it was just one of those days,” he added.
“It was a perfect day for golf. A little bit of breeze but it was a nice day for golf.
“I hit it good enough to be under par today but it didn’t happen and it’s all good.”
Pearman is also pleased with his display with the putter.
“The greens are a little bit bumpy but I am putting better and have been practising a little bit,” he said.
“I made a couple of stupid bogeys, but I made three birdies.
“I still have to work on my short game a little bit. It’s not bad, but I know it can be a little bit better.”
Professionals Nick Jones and Chris Smith and amateur Jarryd Dillas finished in a three-way tie for third at five-over, 76.
