Justin Madeiros fulfils dream of becoming professional golfer
Justin Madeiros is the newest member of the Bermuda Professional Golfers Association.
The 35-year-old earned his membership after coming out on top of a six-player field in the BPGA’s 36-hole qualifying tournament held in trying weather conditions at Tucker’s Point last week.
Madeiros is thrilled to have realised a personal milestone and is keen to broaden his golfing horizons.
“Becoming a part of the BPGA has been a personal goal of mine in the last year,” Madeiros said.
“I have become more grounded and focused, allowing me the opportunity to have made it this far.
“This means a lot to me as it will open doors for me to spread my wings in the direction I want to go in professional golf.
“I aspire to get certified to teach and motivate whoever is looking for support in golf as well as the next generation of young golfers to come.
“Having a young son of my own who has shown interest in this sport opened my eyes to the possibilities of teaching.
“Having this platform to grow in all aspects of golf is nothing short of amazing.
“It will also allow me to grow my game and perfect this craft. I have also taken a great interest in club building and repair, and I hope to get certified in this avenue as well.
“I want to say thank you again to BPGA for this opportunity. This is very big for me.”
BPGA president Quinton Sherlock feels Madeiros’s success exemplifies the spirit of excellence and perseverance that defines the association.
“We are thrilled to welcome him aboard and look forward to his contributions in advancing golfing excellence in Bermuda,” Sherlock said.
The event at Tucker’s Point last week underscores the BPGA’s commitment to providing opportunities for players to follow their dreams of being golf professionals.
Madeiros shot 80 in the first round and 70 in the second for a combined score of 150, which was six shots fewer than the association’s target score of 156.
“I would like to start off by saying congratulations to all the participants that came out to try and qualify,” tournament director Chris Smith said.
“The event had a target score of 156 and in the end the winner was victorious with a two-day total of 150.
“Congratulations to Justin Madeiros on becoming the newest member of the BPGA.
“A big thank you to Mark Crawford and his entire team at Tucker’s Point for hosting the BPGA qualifier. The golf course was in great shape.”
The association plan to stage a similar qualifying event later this year at a venue and date to be confirmed later.
