Kenny Leseur believes his game is headed in the right direction as he attempts to build on his maiden win on the Gosling’s Moongate Tour.

The top amateur golfer has gone from strength to strength since recovering from a hip injury and he finished joint winner with experienced professional Dwayne Pearman at one-over 63, competing at Five Forts Golf Course in St George’s last week.

“My game has improved a lot since I have been injury-free and I have found consistent form in my game,” Leseur told The Royal Gazette.

“It’s been good the last five months to be injury-free for the first time in a long time and I feel like I am back to playing how I know I can.

“My game is in a good spot going into the summer and next year in school. I played well in the spring semester and I look forward to being in the line-up next year.”

The Butler University student trailed clubhouse leader Dwayne Pearman by one shot with three holes to play before grabbing a share of the lead after rolling in a 12ft birdie putt at the par-four, 16th hole.

“I stayed pretty consistent throughout the round and ended well,” said the 20-year-old, who carded three birdies and four bogeys.

Leseur, who competed in the inaugural Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course in 2019 as a 15-year-old, is happy to be back home for the summer break.

“It feels good to be home. I feel relaxed, which I think has helped with my game,” he said.

“My dad [Kenny Sr] has also been helping me, which has given me a second boost of confidence.

“I want to remain consistent with my game in the short term and make sure that I don’t get too high or too low with my emotions.

“In the long term I need to see what I can do the in the next two years in college to be able to decide. However it will be something to do with golf.”
