Kenny Leseur continues winning ways at Port Royal

Gaining confidence: Kenny Leseur says he needs “to tighten up virtually every part of my game to compete with these guys” at the Gosling’s Moongate Tour at Port Royal (File photograph)

Kenny Leseur extended a remarkable win streak to three after coming away victorious in the fifth round of the Gosling’s Moongate Tour at Port Royal Golf Course yesterday.

The top amateur carded a two-over 73 to pip nearest rivals Nick Jones, Chris Smith and Eric West, who finished joint second, by one shot.

“I played pretty well; struck the ball well all day and probably only hit two bad shots,” Leseur told The Royal Gazette.

‘“I had 5-6 chances inside of ten feet for birdie and I missed them all. The greens aren’t the best right now, so it was the same for everyone.”

The 20-year-old was tied with fellow amateur West heading to the last hole where he converted a 17 foot birdie putt and his rival two-putted for par to seal the deal with a bang.

“I enjoyed playing with Eric (West) and Oliver (Betschart) and I am glad that my mental game is back where it needs to be,” said Leseur, whose round included two birdies, as many bogeys and a double bogey.

“I keep gaining more and more confidence the more I play and compete, which is good for me.”

The win was the Butler University student’s second straight on the Gosling’s Moongate Tour and third overall having won last weekend’s Bermuda Amateur Men’s Stroke Play Championship at the same venue five days earlier.

“I have won three in a row and look forward to continuing the run I am on with full confidence in my game,” Leseur added.

West secured his second podium finish in five days having placed third at last weekend’s Bermuda Amateur Men’s Stroke Play Championship.

“Kenny played a solid back nine and made birdie on eighteen,” the former Tour de las Américas player said.

“I had a fifteen foot slider to tie and it just didn’t break into the hole.

“My game last week during the Stroke Play Championship wasn’t sharp, and it wasn’t sharp again today.

“I need to tighten up virtually every part of my game to compete with these guys.”

Professional Andrew Trott-Francis rounded off the top five a farther shot back of the leader.
