Scott Roy off in search of more Moongate Tour success
Scott Roy is hoping for another fine performance on the Gosling’s Moongate Tour at Mid Ocean Club today.
The defending Order of Merit champion won the season opener to make a solid start to his championship defence and then finished tied for third in his only appearances on this year’s tour to date.
It is that steady form Roy will be looking to maintain heading into today’s medal event at the 6,520 yard, par-71 golf course.
“The events that I have played in have been super successful,” he told The Royal Gazette.
“Although I haven't been putting the time into my game as much as last year, the results have still been there.
“I think the patience of just going out there and enjoying it is paying off versus the over-exertion and hard work.
“I still feel confident and, I am not saying I haven't been playing golf, I just haven't been able to play in the Moongate on the dates I have been out.
“I have just come back from a good trip in Long Island with my caddie [Seth Deroulet] and we played some long courses. We played eight rounds of golf in five days walking all of them, so I feel fit.
“I am just going out to there to have fun and mentally prepare myself for September and the Butterfield Bermuda Championship Local Qualifier.”
The 42-year-old is also looking forward to playing another round at Mid Ocean Club.
“Mid Ocean is always a fun course to play,” Roy said.
“It's not going to jump up and bite you too bad, and I feel like I can still score and place well up there.”
The Turtle Hill Golf Club director is among the favourites to claim honours at Mid Ocean along with fellow professionals Chaka DeSilva, Nick Jones and Dwayne Pearman.
The evergreen Pearman already has one victory under his belt this year while Jones is back on island after a brief stint competing on the APGA Tour in the United States.
Among the notable absentees is Kenny Leseur, who has won the previous two medal events, and fellow amateurs Oliver Betschart and Damian Palanyandi.
