Dylan Muso makes early exit in Florida
Dylan Muso bowed out of the Optimist International Junior Championship in Miami after missing the 36-hole cut yesterday.
A two-round 23-over 166 left the Bermudian well shy of the mark and the top 70 and ties advanced to the third and final round.
An opening-round 86 at the Optimist Blue Monster course on Sunday presented Muso with the huge task of making up ground.
It ultimately proved beyond his reach after he carded 80 in the second round at the Optimist Golden Palm course.
“I gave myself a tough hill to climb going into round two after a disappointing round one,” he told The Royal Gazette.
“I had a good start to my round today but one bogey and two double bogeys in my last four holes impacted my chance to make the cut.”
Muso, whose second round included two birdies, three bogeys and four double bogeys, was last shown tied for 120th, seven shots shy of the cut, with a bunch of players yet to complete their round.
The 17-year-old also found the going tough the previous day in the opening round at the shorter Optimist Golden Palm course.
“Things didn’t go as planned. I couldn’t catch a break on half the holes,” said Muso, whose opening round 86 included four double bogeys and a solitary birdie.
The promising player will now see out the remainder of the tournament in the “Clash of Challengers”, featuring all the players who failed to make the cut in the main event.
The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships is regarded as one of the largest and best-known junior golf tournaments in the world and features more than 600 golfers annually.
Muso’s compatriots Arman Newton, Lewis MacFarlane and Lachlan Soutter also competed at this year’s championships in Florida.
Saltus student Newton finished 36th in the boys 14-15 division, MacFarlane tied for 17th in the boys 10-11 division and tournament debutant Soutter was 90th in the boys 12-13 division.
