Age just a number as Dwayne Pearman savours Moongate Tour success
Dwayne Pearman proved that age is just a number by winning this year’s Gosling’s Moongate Tour Order of Merit.
Aged 61, one of the Tour’s most senior players upstaged his junior counterparts on the way to the title.
“It's a nice feeling to be 61 years old and still be able to win against the young guys,” Pearman told The Royal Gazette.
“It's nice to win and as you get older you have to cherish these wins. I know I am on the back nine now so I am just having fun and enjoying it.”
The experienced professional, who had an unassailable lead in the overall series heading into the final 18-hole medal event at Port Royal Golf Course on Friday, signed off with a four-over 75 to finish tied for sixth.
“I have been playing pretty good the last two months, putting pretty good and hitting it OK,” Pearman said.
“Today was one of those days. I got in at 3am from a flight and said I was going to play just to play, but I was a little bit tired.
"I played OK on the front nine and back nine things got a little tighter. I was even on the front and shot four over on the back, but that's just golf.“
Teenager Oliver Betschart carded a one-under 70, which included three birdies and two bogeys, to claim his first win on this year’s Tour by two shots.
“I played pretty steady and it went well,” he said.
“I was really solid and steady even when I put myself out of position. I am happy with the result and it’s a confidence boost.”
Quinton Sherlock Jr, the Bermuda Professional Golfers Association president, carded a one-over 72 to finish second while fellow professional Arriek Douglas and amateurs Eric West and Jarryd Dillas finished tied for third, another two shots back.
