There was a changing of the guard in the penultimate round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship as the lead swapped hands on a number of occasions at a windswept Port Royal Golf Course on Saturday.

But at the end of the third round it is American Andrew Novak and Puerto Rican Rafael Campos, who both shot 62, replacing Justin Lower atop the leaderboard to lead the rest of the field by a one-shot going into the final round.

“Every time you tee it up you want to be in the final group on Sunday, up by the lead or leading,” Novak told The Royal Gazette. “I’ve done that and so I’ve just got to bring it home.”

Novak, whose bogey-free round featured nine birdies, also tied the tournament front nine record of 29, which he now shares with Ben Crane, Rob Oppenheim and past winner Brendon Todd.

“I got hot with the putter and that’s always cool to see,” he said.

“I hit a good shot into the 1st, made probably a 12-footer or so, and that just kind of got it going. Seeing them go in kept it rolling and I just got hot.”

Campos, whose wife gave birth to a daughter on Monday, also carded nine birdies during his flawless round.

“I really am happy about the last couple days, especially today,” he said.

“It's been quite some time since I felt comfortable chipping, but I had a couple of chip-ins today and the putter rolled really well.“

Also sharing the spotlight was American Wesley Bryan, who shot the lowest round of 61 to earn a share of the course record along with Canadian Taylor Pendrith and Alex Noren.

Bryan did the most moving on “Moving Day” as he jumped 42 places into fourth, three shots adrift of the leaders with 18 holes left to play.

“Nobody knows when a 61is going to come and that's just kind of a career day,” said Bryan, whose sparkling round featured six birdies and two eagles either side of the turn.

“I felt like these type of conditions really for my entire golfing career, I've really enjoyed wind. It just brings out a little bit more creativity, so I do enjoy the wind.

“I've been hitting the ball really nice and been hitting it solid and been putting pretty well.”

Bryan, who started his round on the back nine, got off to a blistering start as he shot a six-under 29 to earn a share of the back nine record along with Bermuda’s Camiko Smith, David Lingmerth, Denny McCarthy, Doc Redman and Scottie Scheffler.

The 34-year old had a good chance to break the existing record but carded successive pars on his final two holes.

One shot behind the leaders is American Lower, whose round of 68 included five birdies and two bogeys.

“Ball-striking was pretty good until the wind started picking up,” said Lower, who will play alongside Novak and Campos in the final group on Sunday..

“Felt like I had a chance on every hole on the front, but I just wish the putter would have co-operated a little more.

“I was hitting my lines. I guess it was more me than anything, kind of under-reading, overreading.”

Lucas Glover, the 2009 US Open champion, is among a bunch of players within five shots of the lead heading into the final round of the tournament which remains wide open.
