Friends of Hospice golf tournament goes with a swing
The Friends of Hospice’s fifth annual Ladies’ Golf Tournament took place over 18 holes at Turtle Bay last weekend, combining a celebration of women’s partnership and friendship with a major fundraising effort.
This year’s event, themed ‘Butterflies and Bees,’ saw 14 teams competing and fully embracing the theme with floral and insect-inspired outfits, while decorating their golf carts to match.
Sponsored by Chubb, Everen, Markel, Lindo’s, and Gosling’s, the tournament raised funds for Friends of Hospice programmes, which provide support to individuals requiring hospice and palliative care, as well as their families.
The top three teams were Markel’s Guardians of the Greens (Ebonie Cox, Dominique Richardson, Tiye Williams, and Linda O’Brien), Dolly’s B&B’s (Shirley Higgins, Caroline Svensen, Sandy Dyer, and Michelle Quinlan), and Chubb’s Ms. Bee-Hiven (Sarah Walsh, Leigh Ann Hobday, Erin Cooney, and Olivia Bachelet), who finished first, second, and third, respectively.
Closest-to-the-pin honours went to Sarah Walsh on hole 2 and Ebonie Cox on hole 11.
Other awards recognised creativity and team spirit. Arch Re’s Queen Bee Flutter Bies (Tanisha Taylor, Wolette Smith, Phillipa Jones, and Shakira Jones) were named Best Dressed Team, while Markel’s Guardians of the Greens won Best Decorated Cart. Argo’s Pollination Infiltration earned recognition for extraordinary team-building skills during a warm-up marshmallow tower challenge, and Walsh also claimed the Butterfly or Bee activity prize.
Jennifer Mahoney, executive director of Friends of Hospice, highlighted the importance of the event, saying:
“We are so grateful to have had so many members of the community support Friends of Hospice’s fifth annual Ladies’ Golf Tournament.
“This is a hugely fun event and an important fundraiser for our programmes supporting those in need of hospice or palliative care, as well as their loved ones. We also want to give a big thank you to our sponsors, who make these fundraising events possible.”
