Sienna Mosquera happy to compete for Fecchio Cup
Sienna Mosquera cannot wait to showcase her skills in the Fecchio Cup, which gets started at Turtle Hill Golf Course today.
The Mike Bender Golf Academy student is among those expected to be in contention for overall honours in the Blue Division, which also features defending champion Camilo Legere and newly crowned Gosling’s Moongate Tour Championship winner Oliver Betschart.
“I just flew home for the holidays and I’m really excited to be able to play in the Fecchio Cup this year,” Mosquera told The Royal Gazette.
“I haven’t had the opportunity to play Turtle Hill in a while as I’ve been training and competing in the US these last few months. But it’s such a great course and I can’t wait to get out there and compete against our other juniors here in Bermuda.
“I’m happy the Bermuda Golf Association is hosting this junior event. It’s very important to the juniors here to have opportunities like this to compete in Bermuda.”
The 18-year-old has already impressed this year after finishing runner-up in the Canada Junior Championship, third at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour in Florida and being crowned Port Royal Female Club Champion back on home soil last month.
Darina Betschart, sister of teenage prodigy Oliver, is another female golfer that could be thick in the hunt for overall honours in the 36-hole tournament.
There are 39 junior golfers set to tee off, with players split into four divisions based on their age.
The Blue Division (15+yrs) consists of 12 golfers, with the White Division (13-14 yrs) the largest with 17 players signed up. The Red Division (11-12 yrs) has just three entrants and the Gold Division (9-10 yrs) will be contested by seven youngsters.
The Blue and White divisions will be playing 36 holes over two days using the dtrokeplay format. The Red Division will also be a 36-hole event, but in the Stableford format, with the same format being used in the Gold Division over 18 holes across two days.
