Jarryd Dillas and Oliver Betschart miss cut in Argentina
Bermuda’s Jarryd Dillas and Oliver Betschart were among those missing the cut at the Latin America Amateur Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Friday.
Betschart produced a two-round total of five-over 149 and compatriot Dillas 15-over 159, finishing shy of the projected cut at one-over and ties.
Dillas expressed his disappointment with his performance at the Pilar Golf Club.
“Mix of frustration and disappointment with my performance this week,” he told The Royal Gazette.
“Physically I’m still there or thereabouts but mentally I’m not strong enough to compete at this level right now. I doubt myself way too much, which means I can never be fully committed to the shot at hand. I’m struggling to detach myself from the result, and until I figure out a way to do that I’ll continue to shoot these types of scores.”
Dillas produced rounds of 80 and 79, while Betschart carded 74 and 75 on his debut at the championship.
“Very proud of Oli for the way he played over the two days,” Dillas said.
“He got off to a slow start yesterday but bounced back with three birdies and an eagle in the middle part of his round to move up the leaderboard and put himself into contention. He didn’t finish the way he would have liked, and I know he’s disappointed at not making the cut in his first LAAC.
“But this week has been a great learning experience for him and will certainly stand him in good stead for the future.”
The eventual winner of the 72-hole tournament will receive an invitation to compete in the Masters tournament as well as exemptions into The Open and the US Open.
