More than $20,000 raised and turtle saved at Abic golf event
The Association of Bermuda International Companies (ABIC) raised $21,000 to support educational initiatives that strengthen Bermuda’s future workforce at its annual charity golf tournament.
Sponsored by Relm Insurance, the event was held at Belmont Hills Golf Course last week and brought together members of the international business community, corporate partners, and supporters for a day of friendly competition and philanthropy.
Funds raised will be earmarked to support a professional development day for teachers and Ministry of Education officials.
This initiative, a part of Abic’s Train the Trainers programme, aims to equip teachers and curriculum developers with a deeper understanding of Bermuda’s international business sector, including the diverse career pathways available today and in the future, the skills and qualifications needed to succeed, and how students can best prepare for these opportunities.
By strengthening educators’ knowledge, Abic hopes to increase the pipeline of Bermudians who are trained and ready to compete for jobs in international business.
Christian Dunleavy, chairman of Abic, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative.
"The success of this year’s tournament is about more than golf; it’s a fun competition to help build Bermuda’s future workforce,“ he said.
“By investing in the professional development of our educators, we are ensuring that students receive the guidance and insight they need to pursue fulfilling careers in international business."
“We also want to thank the company sponsors and all the company teams. Without their support, we could not have had a successful fundraise”, Mr. Dunleavy continued.
Joseph Ziolkowski, CEO and founder of Relm Insurance, was delighted that his company is involved in sponsoring the event.
“Relm is thrilled to have been the first title sponsor of the Abic Annual Charity Golf Tournament,” he said.
It was a fantastic day on the course but, more importantly, a meaningful investment in developing Bermuda’s future business leaders. We look forward to continuing our work with ABIC to grow Bermudian expertise and deepen Relm’s investment in the community.“
A team from Aon won the tournament, while Brown and Brown fielded an all-women’s team, fitting in International Women’s Month.
Denika Hollis, a tournament Volunteer who works at Aon, safely rescued a turtle that had lost its way on the golf course, returned it to the pond, and it swam gleefully once put back there.
