Gymnasts target more medal joy
The Bermuda Gymnastics Association will look to build on their recent success when their women’s team travel to New York this weekend.
Fresh from winning countless medals in Connecticut last weekend, nineteen females will compete at the Manhattan Classic Invitational. The Bermuda contingent will go up against the best gymnasts from the United States during the three-day event. Travelling with the team are coaches Amanda Baughman, Chris Nelligan, and Molly Newbury.
“It is our fourth trip to this Invitational and we are sending a large team as we have found it a stellar competitive experience in the past,” Baughman said.
“This is a vital competition for the gymnasts as they are trying to attain a qualification score for the USA IGC World Championships to be held in June. We have had gymnasts qualify to the Championships for many years and hope to send a strong team this time around.”
Eleven boys and four girls made the trek to Connecicut last weekend, with both sets of athletes winning various medals. The female quartet of Sydney Mason, Clara James, Danielle Wall, all of BHS, and Warwick Academy’s Anna Francoeur were in impressive form at the Level 9 USA Gymnastics competition.
