Boys’ team heads to Maryland event

Bermuda boys' gymnastics team are in Maryland this weekend

An 11-member party will travel to the Mid Atlantic Gymnastics Invitational this weekend to compete against the best gymnasts on the United States East Coast.

The boys’ team, which comprises of high school and middle school athletes, will be competing at the event in College Park, Maryland, for the second time.

They will be accompanied coach Magan Outerbridge when they leave Bermuda today, returning on Monday.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that 11 members of our boys gymnastics team will attend the Mid Atlantic Gymnastics Invitational in Maryland,” Duke Nelligan, the Bermuda head coach, said. “The meet is hosted at the University of Maryland and is one of the area’s top annual competitions.

“The boys have been training hard to improve their skills for the biggest meet of the season.

“The Atlantic Coast Invitational has some of the best boys on the East Coast competing at the University of Maryland.

“With the addition of FIG coaches and former Olympic coach Peter Kormann advising our young athletes, we have the largest group of boys competing and hungry for top results.

“I know they will all do their best to make Bermuda proud.”

The team will compete in the level 4, 5, and 6 divisions.

Bermuda team: Taj Lowery, Kai Lowery (Warwick Academy); Max Blakeney, Jaden Malpas, Cole Packwood, Jordan Trimarchi (Saltus); Niyan Outerbridge, Nizeko Outerbridge (Harrington Sound); Ty Dunlop, Thomas Gesick (Somersfield); Jacob Madeiros (MSA).
