Bermuda trio qualify for Pan Am Games
Bermuda gymnastics trio, Sydney Mason, Gabby Vincent and Zantae Dill, have secured a place at next summer’s Pan American Games in Toronto.
The three artistic gymnasts recently competed at the Pan American Championship in Toronto, a qualifier for the Games, against top competitors from the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Central America.
Mason, 16, was Bermuda’s top finisher, posting a personal best on the uneven bars on her way to finishing 51st with a score of 39.55. Dill, 15, and Vincent, 17, came 60th and 63rd.
Duke Nelligan, the Bermuda Gymnastics Association head coach, said that Mason, Vincent and Dill rose to the challenge of competing on the international stage.
“The level of competition in the Pan American region is extremely high,” Nelligan said.
“There were numerous Olympians participating, and dozens of rising stars who are looking for a spot at the 2016 Olympic Games.
“Our job was to perform clean routines, earn a spot for Pan Am Games, and soak up every bit of the experience so that next time we are even more prepared.
“I’m very proud of our team for handling themselves confidently and for representing Bermuda in a most positive fashion.
“We look forward to next summer’s Pan American Games and showing our improvements.”
The BGA is set to host its annual International Gymnastics Challenge at the National Training Centre in St Davids on November 8.
The Pan Am Games run from run from July 10 to 26.
