The Bermuda International Gymnastics Challenge proved a hugely successfully event with a large number of international teams among the competitors.

Hosted by the Bermuda Gymnastics Association, based in St David’s, teams from Barbados, Canada, Cayman Islands and United States, as well the host gym and fellow Bermuda club Quality Gymnastics went head to head across differing levels of competition.

Within the boy’s competition, Theo Griffiths, from the BGA, won the level 4 all-round title with a score of 55.30, while clubmate Luca Bortoli took the level 5 honours with a score of 57.60.

Visiting competitor Jazzair Best, from Barbados, claimed victory at level 6 with a total score of 58.00, while there was further joy for the host club with Max Blakeney winning the JD title, scoring 64.10 and Taj Lowery claiming victory at level 10, with a total of 66.20.

In the girls’ side of the competition, the BGA enjoyed further success with a number of their gymnasts winning their respective categories.

Charlotte Lesage won the Copper 1 category with a score of 35.40, Alexandra Daniel took the highest score across all Copper 2 age divisions with 37.25, while Marseilles Williams claimed the highest score across all age categories in the Bronze Diamond divisions with 36.6.

Isabella Charleson walked away with the highest score across all age divisions in the IGC Gold category with 35.45, while Gabrielle Smith claimed the USAG level 2 category honours with a 37.00.

Rayna Abbott clinched victory in the USAG level 3 category with a total of 35.95 and Kennedy Kowalski took the highest score across all age divisions in the EXCEL Gold category with 37.30.

Of the other categories, Jacqueline Caruso of Progressive Gymnastics, New York, Bronze Divisions title with a score of 35.30, while Avani Patton of Quality Gymnastics took the highest score across all age division in USAG level 4 category with 35.90.

Gracie MacKenzie, from Island Gymnastics Academy, from Canada, won the USAG level 6 category with 35.95, Samantha Hassan from Artistic Gymnastics, New York, took the highest score in the USAG level 5 category with 35.90, while clubmate Haley Eddinger won the USAG level 7 category with a total of 37.05.

“It was exciting for us to have a mixture of returning and new teams visiting the island to attend our meet,” said Kimberley McHardy, the BIGC meet director.

“Some clubs attended with just a few athletes the year before, but returned with a larger group this year while other teams like Pacific Rim from Alaska stated that they would like to return with their full team next year, which speaks to their support of the event and what it offers”.
