Clubs do battle in International Challenge
The island’s two gymnastics clubs came together to compete in the Bermuda International Challenge.
A total of 28 athletes from Bermuda Gymnastics and Quality Gymnastics attended the meet, hosted in St David’s, with competition from Excel Bronze level through Level 6 across all four apparatus.
At Level 6, Hayleigh Cherry finished first all-around after taking top spot on beam, while BGA clubmates Maddie Bigley placed first on vault and Lexi Daniel prevailed on floor and bars.
In the Gold level, Yhari Goater-Jones (BGA), placed first in the all-around category with a score of 37.35. She finished first on vault (9.25) and floor (9.45), as well as being placed second on bars (9.2) and balance beam (9.45).
Cassandra Mayers (BGA) was the overall runner-up with a score of 36.45 after finishing first on balance beam, with Eva Wright rounding out the top three after a victory on bars. There was also a strong display from Elena Bortoli (Qgym), who came out on top in the vault.
There was also joy for Ashanti-Sarai Darko (Qgym), who prevailed at Level 4 with an all-round score of 34.1.
In the silver level, Maddie Pritchard (BGA) finished first on the floor (9.4), bars (9.65) and all-around (37.3), while Quality Gymnastics’ Abigail Maringi finished first on vault (9.3) and second in all-around (37.25).
Club mate Annie Archibald finished first on the balance beam with a score of 9.65, while Samantha Talosa finished second on vault and on the balance beam.
In the bronze level, the first-place all-around went to Eleanor Garcia, of Quality Gymnastics, with a score of 36.6 after she finished first on vault (9.2) and bars (9.3), while club mate Lily Hall claimed victory on the beam (9.3) and floor exercise (9.0).
