Local gymnasts shine in International Challenge
Nearly 40 gymnasts from the ages of 5 to 14 competed in the Bermuda International Gymnastics Challenge on Saturday
Young athletes from Bermuda Gymnastics and Quality Gymnastics competed at a number of levels, with some gymnasts earning multiple first places.
Isobel Stones took top honours in the all-around competition at gold level for gymnasts aged 8 to 11 with a score of 36.6, beating Samantha Tolosa (36) and Aleyah Pacheco (35.5).
Stones also won the vault with 9.2, beating Nea Fosker (9.1) and Madeliene Pritchard (8.9), and she came out on top in the floor competition in 9.5, edging out Fosker (9.35) and Sofia Cooper.
With a score of 9.3, Samantha Tolosa won on bars ahead of Aleyah Pacheco (9.1) and Stones (8.85), while Ashanti-Sarai Darko was placed first on the beam with 9.25, edging out Tolosa (9.1) and Stones.
Tyla Foote was named all-around champion at silver level after scoring 36.4 points. That was enough for her to hold off the challenge of Ty-Leah Trott (35.7) and Courtney Burgess (35.05).
Foote also came top in the vault with 9.4, narrowly beating Lily Hall (9.1) and Trott (9.1), and she also won on the bars, again heading Hall (9.3) and Burgess (9.25)
Savana Walters was the leading competitor on beam with a score of 9.0, with Foote settling for second (8.95) and Trott third (8.9)
The floor competition went the way of Georgia Rose with 9.2, ahead of Foote (8.65) and Trott.
At bronze level, Evelyn Howarth, aged 7, was champion on the vault with a score of 9.8, beating Emma Wright and Satya Tuzo-Smith, who tied for second place. Howarth also scored 37.3 points to be named all-around champion from Tuzo-Smith (36.85) and Raelyn Robinson.
Jodie Denton won the bars competition with 9.7 ahead of Indigo Kemp (9.35), with Robinson (9.3) finishing third.
Robinson showed her skill on the floor, producing the top score of 9.45, with Tuzo-Smith (9.4) and Denton (9.3) rounding out the podium places.
Wright won on the beam with 9.55 ahead of Robinson (9.2) and Howarth (9.15).
Eva Wright, aged 12, was the only gymnast to perform at platinum level and she scored 9 on the vault. She also scored 8.8 on bars, 9.0 on beam and 8.7 on floor, which added up to a total score of 35.5 in the all-around competition.
Bermuda Gymnastics Association’s athletes competitive gymnasts will be participating in the Burlington Spring Cup in Ontario, Canada, between May 2 to 6, with both organisations next in action on island in the Bermuda National Championships on May 17.
