Mammography centre accredited –for the next three years
Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography.It comes after the American College of Radiology carried out a review on the facility’s ability to aid the early detection and diagnosis of breast disease in women.The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety, according to a press release from the centre.It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR practice guidelines and technical standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists.Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are all assessed.David Green, the centre’s clinical director and radiologist, said in a statement: “Our accreditation indicates that our services have met and exceeded national guidelines for mammography, and demonstrates our commitment to quality patient care.”Dr Green, a consultant breast specialist, is developing a comprehensive breast imaging programme for Bermuda which aims to work directly with patients and their physicians to provide immediate results for diagnostic assessments, one on one consultation, and the highest level of specialist care for breast cancer diagnosis in Bermuda.Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, one of Bermuda’s oldest non-profit organisations performs more than 9,000 mammograms per year.Useful websites: www.chc.bm.
