Not to be sniffed at! Moustache men raise $64,000
The Movember challenge to grow a moustache and get sponsorship in support of men’s health brought in $64,000 last month for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.Out of the 162 “MoBros” (56 individuals and ten teams), The Royal Gazette’s own Alex Wright managed to raise $1,650 for the cause. The business reporter joined other participants for the shave-off this week at the Robin Hood Pub.“I savoured mine for one more night before giving it the chop,” he admitted. “It feels good and strange in equal measures to have lost the facial hair.”Although the moustaches have been dispensed with, the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre is continuing to accept donations for the annual event.“Having never properly tried to grow a moustache before, I went into the whole experience quite open-minded,” the now clean-shaven Mr Wright said.“And I have to say that I rather enjoyed it all despite horror stories about unbearably painful and itchy upper lips and the like.”He also came in third out of the Island’s individual participants. The Movember Foundation has organised the worldwide charity since 2004. According to the group, Canadians were the largest contributors globally to this year’s event.Useful website: www.movember.com.
