The Ministry of Tourism and Transport’s Transport Control Department (TCD) reminds the public that both the North Street and Rockaway facilities will resume operations on Monday, May 4, opening from 8:00am to 4:00pm. The TCD Southside facility remains closed.

The public are advised that as a result of the recent closure of TCD facilities, there has accumulated a backlog of work to be completed. On reopening, the focus will be on addressing this work and those individuals most impacted by the closure. Wherever possible, customers are strongly encouraged to continue using the online eTCD system.

Customers that attend TCD are reminded of the continued practice of social distancing to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. To that end, please note the following:

• All customers attending either facility must wear a face mask. Customers not wearing a face mask will be denied service.

• Customers should attend TCD facilities alone whenever possible.

• Customers must have all the necessary paperwork in hand.

• Customers must follow the instructions of TCD personnel.

• Vehicles may be directed to the Dellwood Middle School playing field for additional parking.

Customers attending any TCD facility must also adhere to the following procedures.

Procedure for Vehicle Examinations

To facilitate social distancing and streamline the process, whenever possible, TCD encourages all persons to travel alone when bringing their vehicles for inspection.

Customers attending either facility for vehicle examinations must wear a face mask and remain inside their vehicle throughout the examination. Examiners will not touch vehicles or handle documents. Before starting the examination, customers must place their license certificate on the car dashboard in a location easily visible to the examiner.

When instructed to proceed, all passengers must immediately exit the vehicle and stay outside of the examination building. The only person left inside should be the driver. Following this, the driver must slowly drive their vehicle into the inspection lane while paying close attention and listening to the examiners instructions. The examiners will instruct the driver when and where to stop.

Window Tint Testing:

On right-hand drive vehicles, the rear nearside window will be tested. On left-hand drive vehicles, the rear offside window will be tested. To facilitate testing, following instructions of the examiner, the window must be lowered enough to allow the testing instrument to attach to the inside window surface.

Upon successful completion of the vehicle examination, customers are encouraged to practice social distancing by completing their vehicle relicensing online at eTCD.

For the month of May, Commercial vehicles will be examined and relicensed from 8:00am to 2:00pm Saturdays commencing May 9.

Procedure for Renewing Driving Licences and Transfer of Vehicles

Customers will only be allowed inside the building when a service counter is vacant. Customers must have all documents ready for viewing when entering the building. Registration clerks will not handle documents. Documents and payment methods must be placed on the ledge in front of the counter. Customers must then move back 6 feet and stand on the line indicated in front of the counter until instructed by the clerk to return and collect their documents.

Driving Examinations

Examinations will resume for essential workers. All other driving and Project Ride practical examinations remain suspended until further notice. This directive is in keeping with the guidelines set out by the UK Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

Motorcycle and auxiliary bicycle riding tests, and “in the yard” chicane seniors’ driving tests will resume.

Computer Theory Tests

Tests will resume for essential workers. All other tests are suspended until further notice.
