Windreach hosts disability conference
WindReach is hosting a free virtual conference today in support of people with disabilities.
The event, titled Common Ground – Amplifying Community Voices, is being held in recognition of The United Nation’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities being marked worldwide today.
The conference is aimed at anyone who is differently-abled, supporters, educators, healthcare professionals and those who want to enrich the quality of life of individuals living with special needs.
Alyssa Frick, life skills occupational therapist at charity WindReach said: “Common Ground - Amplifying Community Voices is endeavouring to give a voice to the issues and concerns facing Bermudians with disabilities, to discuss the barriers they face and work to find solutions to create a more equitable community.”
Speakers and panellists will include; Jessica Lewis, Paralympian and world champion; Solay Thomas, a Special Olympics silver medal winner; Tinée Furbert, Minister of Social Development and Seniors; Ahmani Peets, the owner of Ahmani's Cookie Company; ReChai Young, a disabilities advocate; Phyllis Harshaw, a client services assistant at Vision Bermuda, an organisation for the blind and visually impaired, and former learning support teacher; Daniella Jade-Lowe, an accessibilities consultant; and Vince Godber, vision rehabilitation therapist at Vision Bermuda.
The conference, sponsored by Everest Reinsurance, is free for anyone able to access Zoom. Sessions start at 9am and end at 2pm. A recording of the conference will be available on WindReach Bermuda’s YouTube channel.
