This month has been declared Social Work Month by the social development and seniors minister.

Tinee Furbert said she had been “honoured” to carry out the virtual launch of the celebration of the profession.

This year's theme is "Social Workers Are Essential“.

Ms Furbert said: "The efforts of our social workers can be felt far and wide, especially through all they have done to heal our community during these times of a global pandemic, economic uncertainty, and a multitude of community challenges."

She added: "The care and compassion given by social workers play a critical role in the protection of the most vulnerable among us."

Ms Furbert, speaking as she launched the event of March 1, appealed to the public to mark the contributions of social workers.

She said the ministry would air interviews with social workers at 10.30am on March 16 on Hott 107.5FM, and at 3.30pm on Magic 102.7FM.

Video vignettes will be broadcast over the month on CITV, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram and radio testimonials will be featured on Hott 107.5FM and Magic 102.7FM.

Social media highlights will be posted on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
