The number of active Covid-19 infections has dropped, despite another 20 cases logged.

A Ministry of Health spokeswoman said that the new cases were among 1,315 test results that came back to health officials today.

Four came in from overseas – a non-resident who arrived on a boat on April 22, a non-resident who arrived on the Delta flight from New York on April 18 and a resident and a non-resident who arrived on the American Airlines flight from Charlotte on the same day.

Seven of the new cases were classified as on-island transmissions with known contacts and the sources of the other nine cases are under investigation.

A total of 64 people have recovered since the last update and the number of active infections has dropped from 720 to 676, the lowest since April 6.

The number of people in hospital fell from 31 to 28, and the number of patients in intensive care remained at eight.

The seven-day average of the island’s real-time reproduction number is 0.77, and the World Health Organisation country status remained at “community transmission”.

The Ministry of Health said walk-in vaccine services will continue tomorrow at the Bermuda College vaccination centre between 9am and 3pm.

The Bermuda Red Cross, in partnership with the Bermuda Taxi Owners/Operators Association, is offering free rides to the vaccination centre for people without transport.

The service is available between 9am and 1.30pm and anyone interested should contact the Bermuda Red Cross on 232-1945.

A walk-in service will continue from next Monday to Friday between 9am and 1pm at Bermuda College.

A Ministry of Health spokeswoman said: “Those with appointments at the college vaccination centre are asked to attend the old wing of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for their vaccination.

“The vaccination hotline will be doing phone follow up to confirm those appointments.

“The Department of Health’s nurses will be mobile, providing the community with a drive through service in the east, west and central areas of the island.”

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, thanked the staff at the vaccination centres for their hard work, and the Bermuda Red Cross and the BTOA for their support.

Ms Wilson added: “We all want to ensure that everyone has easy access to the Covid-19 vaccines.

“Getting vaccinated is important so that we can protect each other and get back to normal as quickly as possible.”

The next Government Covid-19 Update release will be on Monday.

But the Premier is expected to give a public address on the pandemic tomorrow.
