Singer airlifted to Boston for life-saving surgery
A former Bermuda Idol winner who needs life-saving medical treatment overseas has been airlifted to a hospital in Boston.
Latosha Codrington, a singer in clubs and churches across the island, suffered a heart attack last Tuesday and later developed a blood clot in an artery.
But because Ms Codrington is unemployed and has no health insurance, she could not afford to pay medical bills, expected to cost around $100,000.
A fundraising drive launched on GoFundMe last week has raised $58,000 to help cover her costs.
Francine Lee, Ms Codrington’s aunt, confirmed last night her niece had travelled to the US by air ambulance and was expected to have an operation at Boston’s Lahey Hospital today.
Ms Lee said: “It’s a huge relief. Latosha is now in the best place for her – somewhere where she can get the medical treatment she needs.
“We are all praying for her. And once again, we want to thank everyone for coming together and making this possible.”
