MP blasts Covid-19 conspiracy theorists
An attack on conspiracy theorists who spread “outright lies” about the government’s handling of the Covid-19 crisis was yesterday launched by an MP.
Christopher Famous, the Progressive Labour Party MP for Devonshire East, said it was “heart wrenching” that so many families had suffered losses because of the pandemic.
He added it was disgraceful that “wannabe politicians and conspiracy theorists” spread misinformation.
Mr Famous, speaking during the House of Assembly’s Motion to Adjourn, defended the Government over pandemic restrictions.
He added: “We are not in this because we want to be popular.
“We are not in this because we want to win the next election, we are in it because, at this time in history, we are trying to save people’s lives, people’s jobs and people’s businesses. Government has taken a hit all around.”
Mr Famous said: “When it comes to the House of Assembly and legislation, we are united because none of us wants to call another family to say ’I am sorry to hear your family member passed away because of this disease’.
“Covid is real. I am proud to be a member of this Progressive Labour Party at this time.”
Mr Famous added: “We are more than politicians – we are family … even the One Bermuda Alliance is family – distant, very distant, but they are family.
“As a politician you learn to take the licks, but it is hurtful when you see these conspiracy theories against our family.”
