Water donation to help out vaccination centre queues

A businessman yesterday said he was inspired to help out the public after he spent hours in a queue to get a Covid-19 test.

Carl Vincent explained he was one of hundreds of people to be tested at the temporary Covid-19 clinic at the Perot Post Office in Hamilton last week – where there were long waits in the sun without hydration.

But Mr Vincent, who owns the DropIt grocery delivery service, on Monday delivered 500 bottles of water to the post office.

He said: “I was down there on Saturday for an extended period of time.

“The queues were long and it was pretty hot. I could see that some people didn’t have water and were struggling in the high temperatures.”

Mr Vincent emphasised: “I don’t think it’s anybody’s fault that there isn’t any access to a water fountain or other drinking water source at the centre.

“And I’m not complaining about the length of time it took to get tested – you could see that the nurses there were working so hard and were doing a great job.

“That’s what made me want to do something to give back to the community.

“Our health workers and other front line staff are all having to work hard and make sacrifices at the moment, and if any of us can chip in and make some sort of contribution for the benefit of the whole community, I think it’s important that we do so.”

He said the water donation was a joint effort with the Lindo’s grocery store group.

Mr Vincent had to get tested after he returned from a trip to the US.
