More Pfizer vaccine on way from UK as one new coronavirus infection detected

The island is to get a fresh delivery of 4,680 doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 from Britain, it was revealed last night.

Government House said the consignment would arrive on June 24 on the British Airways flight.

The island’s last batch of the Pfizer vaccine, donated free of charge by the UK, reached their use-by date last week.

The island’s World Health Organisation country status – “community transmission“ at present – is expected to be upgraded to sporadic cases next Monday.

A health ministry spokeswoman said the change would be made if “the epidemiological situation continues to meet the criteria – that is, that case numbers remain low, and any detected cases are either imported or linked to imported or other known cases”.

The news came as health officials announced that one new case of the coronavirus had been detected among 4,800 test results that came back to health officials today.

The infection was classed as an on-island infection with a known contact.

The results covered tests done from last Thursday to Saturday, with the positive test being found on Friday.

There was one recovery since the last update.

The number of action infections has fallen to four, but none are in hospital.

Kim Wilson, the health minister, added that summer camp season was due to start and that organisers should register their events with the ministry.

She said that camp operators should complete the online registration and follow Government guidelines.

Ms Wilson warned: “Parents and guardians should research camps carefully and send their children to approved camps only.”

“Approved camps are assessed for Covid-19 compliance by public health professionals from the Ministry of Health.

“Camps that are not approved risk closure by enforcement personnel."

She also warned anyone due for a coronavirus test that they should turn up on time to avoid causing long queues at clinics.

Public health guidance on summer camps can be found at www.gov.bm/camp-guidance.

A list of approved summer camps can also be examined on the same page.
