Appeal for students to join battle against the coronavirus

Essential service: students will have an opportunity to volunteer at the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory this summer (File photograph)

An appeal for student volunteers to join the front line in the war on the Covid-19 virus was today issued by the Government.

A Government spokeswoman said successful applicants would spend two weeks working with experienced staff members at The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.

She added: “In addition to learning about the administrative functions of the lab and the beginning-to-end schematics of testing a specimen, students will also have a chance to explore the ideologies surrounding this pandemic.”

The laboratory analyses thousands of coronavirus tests on every week.

MDL is accepting applications for the summer student volunteer programme, which will start on July 4.

Applicants should submit one-page essay on their career aspirations, what they have learnt during the Covid-19 pandemic and what they expected to gain from working at the lab.

Applications should be submitted to jtbascome@gov.bm by June 27.

The programme will run throughout the summer until September 4.
