Reminder for students to apply for summer work at MDL

The Government’s Molecular Diagnostics Lab seeking applicants for their Summer Student Volunteer Programme

The deadline for young people to sign up for a volunteer programme at the Government’s Covid-19 testing laboratory is fast approaching, a spokeswoman said today.

The Molecular Diagnostics Lab will accept applications for its Summer Student Volunteer Programme until June 27 at 5pm.

Successful applicants will be split into groups of three and spend two weeks working alongside government staff and learning first-hand what it’s like to work in a laboratory.

The students will also learn about the administrative functions of the laboratory and the process of testing a specimen, as well as the beliefs around the pandemic.

The programme will run from July 4 to September 4 and is open to college-aged student and pupils in their final year of high school.

Applicants must submit a one-page essay detailing their career aspirations, what they have learnt during the pandemic and what they hope to gain from the Summer Student Volunteer Programme.

The essays must be double spaced and in Times New Roman font size 12. Applications should be sent to jtbascome@gov.bm
