Issues affecting the housing, wellbeing and safety of Bermuda’s seniors were discussed during a recent government-led visit to an independent living complex.

Tinee Furbert, the Minister of Social Development and Seniors was joined at Dr Cann Park in Southampton, the island’s largest seniors residence complex for independent living, by John Barritt, Bermuda Housing Trust chairman, and Ianthia Wade, chairwoman of the Ageing Well Committee.

Ms Furbert said: “With a growing senior population, and our work towards developing a National Seniors Strategy, this visit was an opportunity to discuss important factors such as types of senior communities, housing infrastructure and design, and the involvement of maintenance of the property, the needs of seniors in an independent living environment and alternative housing solutions for seniors.

“Our ministry is committed to ensuring the wellbeing of our seniors and we look forward to continuing to listen to the concerns of our seniors so that we can adequately address their needs.”
