Police Covid-19 appeal to people to avoid station visits
A surge in Covid-19 cases has forced the police to ask the public to avoid visits to stations unless “absolutely necessary”.
Exceptions include victims of abuse to make reports or get assistance, and people on bail – who are still required to report to a police station if specified in their bail conditions.
A police spokesman said people should call 211 or use the BPS community reporting portal and use 911 for emergency calls only.
Anyone who does have to visit a station should wear a mask, use hand sanitiser on entry, and practice social distancing.
If officers have to make house calls, police should be informed by phone if any occupant has had Covid-19 diagnosed, recently returned from travel overseas, or shown symptoms of cold or flu.
Officers who visit people at home will maintain social distancing.
