US says few exemptions to unvaccinated traveller ban
Exceptions to an air travel ban for unvaccinated foreign arrivals to the United States will be “very limited”, the country’s Consulate in Bermuda has warned.
A spokeswoman for the US Consulate said that “all adult foreign nationals travelling to the United States by air must demonstrate proof of full vaccination against Covid-19”.
She added: “Fully vaccinated aircraft passengers departing from any foreign country with a destination in the United States will continue to be required to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken within three days of departure or written or electronic documentation of recovery from Covid-19 after previous SARS-CoV-2 infection in the form of a positive viral test result and a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or public health official stating that the passenger has been cleared for travel.
“Waivers or exceptions to the vaccination requirement for foreign nationals will be very limited.”
The requirement will come into force early next month, but a date has not been announced.
The new rules, announced on September 20 by the US government, will not affect American citizens.
The spokeswoman said updates would be posted on the US Department of State website.
There was no mention of how the restrictions might affect medical evacuations from the island to the US.
She added that further details would be released “as more information becomes available”.
