Covid-19: Active and hospital cases fall
The number of active Covid-19 cases has fallen by four to 58, the department of health said last night.
There were 20 positive results out of 6,674 tests carried out between last Sunday and Wednesday – a positivity rate of 0.3 per cent.
But 24 people have recovered from infection since the last update on Monday.
There are four people in hospital, one of them in intensive care.
Seven of the new cases were classified as coming in from overseas and ten were said to be on-island transmissions.
The remaining three cases are under investigation.
Kim Wilson, the health minister, said that the vaccine remained Bermuda’s best defence against the spread of the disease.
She added: “It will decrease symptoms and severe illness and, in most cases, prevent death.
“Booster vaccines are available for those 50 and older, healthcare workers, essential and critical service workers who have had a second dose at least six months prior.”
Ms Wilson said proof of employment must be presented when attending for the jab.
She added: “All those with chronic conditions between the ages of 12 and 49, who had a second dose at least six months prior are also eligible for the booster.”
Ms Wilson said pregnant women who had had the second vaccine dose at least six months ago were also eligible for booster shots.
Booster vaccine appointments can be booked through the Government’s website www.gov.bm, by calling the vaccination hotline on 444 2498, or by e-mailing vaccine@gov.bm.
