A medical service has donated $1,000 to help the family of a couple whose lives were claimed in an explosion at their Southampton residence this month.

Bermuda Healthcare Services gave $1,000 to assist relatives of Oscar and Jove Mascarinas.

The husband and wife, both guest workers from the Philippines, died after a blast on the night of May 2.

Police and fire services continue to investigate the cause of the explosion.

The donation went to a fundraiser for families of the two, organised by the Association of Filipinos in Bermuda.

Mr Mascarinas was a father of three, with his children all in school at his home country.

Ewart Brown, a former premier and the executive chairman of BHCS, said: “When we heard about the tragic accident that claimed the lives of Oscar and Jove Mascarinas, we wanted to assist the family in the aftermath of their unimaginable loss.

“Our contribution is on behalf of our entire team, particularly our Filipino employees.”

Mahesh Reddy, medical director of Bermuda Healthcare Services, made the presentation to the Association yesterday at the clinic in Paget.
