Hospitals CFO set to depart this year
Two Bermudians are set to be appointed to senior manager positions at the Bermuda Hospitals Board.
It is understood that Bill Shields, the board’s chief financial officer, and Anthony Fitzgerald, vice-president of clinical operations, will be leaving the island this year after their contracts expire.
Mr Shields took up the post in 2017 after working for Britain’s National Health Service.
As the board’s CFO, he was responsible for financial strategy and reporting, and managed the finance, admitting, materials management, procurement and IT directorates.
Mr Fitzgerald was hired by the BHB in 2018 and, as vice-president of clinical operations, oversaw clinical operations including pathology, diagnostic imaging, surgery, and pharmacy.
R. Scott Pearman, the board’s deputy chief executive officer, said: “We had a succession plan in place for both these positions and are pleased that the two eminently qualified Bermudians concerned will be appointed to fill both vacancies.
Michael Richmond, the board’s chief executive officer, added: “Both Bill and Anthony have provided us with outstanding service and we wish them well in their future endeavours.”
Announcements of the new appointments will be issued in the coming weeks.
