Call to test eyesight on World Sight Day
Vision Bermuda, a charity dedicated to helping the island’s blind and visually impaired, is calling for everyone to get their eyes tested to show support for World Sight Day on October 13.
Theresa Hall, the charity’s executive director, said: “With 80 per cent of blindness and vision loss avoidable or treatable if detected early enough, we are calling on everyone to show their support for World Sight Day by pledging to get their eyes tested.”
The charity will be hosting an open house at Digicel’s headquarters at Victoria Street and Cedar Avenue to celebrate the day. At the event, people can learn more about the charity and its numerous programmes.
Lindo’s will also show its support for World Vision Day by hosting a tag sale at its Warwick location and a round-up day at its Devonshire location on October 12.
Also on October 13, the City of Hamilton’s town crier, Ed Christopher, will make an official proclamation for World Sight Day at the City Hall steps.
World Sight Day seeks to raise awareness about blindness and vision loss around the globe, to influence governments to support blindness rehabilitation programmes and to educate the public on how to maintain healthy vision. It is always held on the second Thursday of October.
