Advice about improving quality of life for older people as well as long-term care are among the work expected to be covered by an Ageing Well Committee.

The Ministry of Social Development and Seniors asked residents to express interest in becoming a member of the group, which will also consider healthy ageing and ageing at home.

A spokeswoman explained: “The Ageing Well Committee is an advisory board that focuses on recommendations for an ageing demographic, including areas of best practice, policies, procedures and services.”

The committee will have up to 14 members, including a chairman appointed by Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Social Development and Seniors.

It will also advise on comprehensive planning and accountability; workforce development, education, employment, and financial security for older adults and caregivers; accessible transportation, and intergenerational and inclusive communities.

Ms Furbert said: “Bermuda’s foundation is a result of the passion, sacrifice and love of our seniors.

“Their accomplishments, dedication and experiences are truly an example of resilience, and they serve as role models for younger generations due to the immense wisdom they possess.

“We believe that the Ageing Well Committee is key to helping us to drive change towards a more senior-nurturing culture.”

She added: "I look forward to receiving the expressions of interest, and I want to thank our community in advance for their support, interest and commitment to what we are seeking to achieve."

Expression of interest forms must be submitted electronically by November 11, 2022. They can be found online at forms.gov.bm/Departments/The-Cabinet-Office/Expression-of-Interest.

For more information, contact the Ministry of Social Development and Seniors by e-mail at msdshq@gov.bm or call 444-2466.
