Hospital issues urgent appeal for O positive blood donors

Appeal: Bermuda Hospitals Board is urging O positive blood donors to come forward (File photograph)

An urgent appeal has been made for people to donate O positive blood because levels were “running low”.

The Bermuda Hospitals Board repeated a call made last month when stocks of the type were reduced after an emergency.

Donors and potential donors of O positive blood were asked to call 236-5067 to make an appointment.

Anyone unsure about their blood type but willing to donate can call the Bermuda Blood Donor Centre on 236-5067, e-mail blood.donor@bhb.bm or make contact by WhatsApp on 533-9553.

A BHB spokeswoman said: “Appointments are preferred, although walk-ins are accepted.”

The blood donor centre is at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and is open from Monday to Thursday from 8.30am to 2.30pm, and on Fridays from 8.30am to 1pm.

It is closed on weekends and public holidays.

The BHB spokeswoman added: “The Bermuda Blood Donor Centre team thanks the community for their kind assistance in ensuring they can continue to save lives.”
