Lamb Foggo Urgent Care is open over the weekend
Staffing issues that forced the temporary closure of the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre in St David’s are not expected to be repeated, according to the Bermuda Hospitals Board.
While the BHB announced initially that the centre would run reduced hours on July 2 because of staffing challenges, it announced at about 8am that day the facility would remain shut that day.
A BHB spokeswoman said on Friday that an “unusual set of personal staff circumstances” had left the facility short-staffed last Sunday.
In response to questions about the temporary closure, the BHB spokeswoman said: “This is not an ongoing issue, and we don’t anticipate it being a regular occurrence.
“While we do have nursing vacancies in the department, we do have sufficient staff to offer safe care to our community.
“The Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre is closed weekdays and is open from 9am to 9pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
“We confirm that we will be open this weekend.”
Lamb Foggo’s operating schedule has been adjusted repeatedly in recent years, with a dramatic reduction of service over time.
In December 2020, the BHB halved the centre’s hours on weekdays — keeping it open from 4pm to 8pm — explaining that the change was related to the introduction of a winter schedule.
In October 2021, the centre started operating from 5pm on weekdays, and in January 2022, the centre started opening at 6pm from Monday to Friday to free up resources for King Edward VII Memorial Hospital’s emergency department.
The centre extended weekday operating hours in May 2022 — opening at 2pm — only to close on weekdays in October 2022.
