Steps to Mental Wellness 3K Walk scheduled for October 14
The community is invited to join in a walk aimed at reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.
The Steps to Mental Wellness 3K Walk, presented by the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation and CG Insurance, takes place on October 14 at the Botanical Gardens.
There is a warm-up is at 9.30am and the walk begins at 10am and finishes at noon.
A spokeswoman for the event said: “We encourage participants of all ages and fitness levels to join us in this meaningful walk to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.”
The Bermuda Mental Health Foundation, a wellness charity, recently opened an eight-bedroom home to help people struggling with mental challenges to better integrate into the community.
The Tarheel House project was started in partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute.
The charity also owns and operates three more properties that provide supervised sheltered housing for 20 clients from MWI
A promotional video for the walk has been created. It said: “Your steps will help us raise funds to help us to continue to provide housing for those with mental disabilities.
“To date we have acquired four homes, housing 25 people. We need your help to continue to provide housing for those with mental health disabilities, raise awareness, support mental health and break the stigma. Every step counts. Together let’s take steps towards mental wellness.“
