Free family sports event with a health message
Friendly family competitions along with booths dispensing health advice took over the show ring in the Botanical Gardens last night.
The annual Celebrating Wellness offered by the Department of Health focused its twelfth event on the family.
“Every year we try to have a different theme, to attract different segments of the population,” Virloy Lewin, health promotion and wellness co-ordinator, told The Royal Gazette. “This one is our family fun night.
“We have health screenings and some of the organisations that deal with family, such as Mirrors and the Employee Assistance Programme, along with a few insurance companies, and of course programmes from the health department. We have interactive booths so people are engaged.”
The department partnered with Xtreme Sports to deliver “activities that are also fun” while breaking a sweat, Dr Lewin said.
“It’s about finding something that you love to do, and then keep doing it.”
She added: “We’re thankful there no hurricane, just a beautiful day happening.”
