Health teams continued efforts last week to source Covid-19 vaccine boosters, the Minister of Health said.

Kim Wilson added that doses would be distributed “accordingly” soon after they were on the island.

The Government said last month that the Office of the Chief Medical Officer was working with the UK Health Security Agency and the Pan American Health Organisation to obtain vaccine boosters.

Ms Wilson told The Royal Gazette on Thursday: “We are still trying to source them; that position has not changed.

“As soon as we get them, we will go ahead and start distributing them accordingly.”

The statement in September said priority for the boosters would be given to people “at most risk for severe Covid-19 outcomes”.

It added: “This includes seniors and persons with underlying health conditions.

“Once boosters become available, more information will be provided.

“The Covid-19 vaccine will continue to be an essential tool for protection as we head into the fall vaccination season.”

The government statement said: “Everyone can play a role in preventing and reducing the spread of respiratory diseases, including influenza and Covid-19, by following preventive measures, such as wearing masks, practising good hand hygiene, maintaining physical distance, staying home when sick and covering coughs and sneezes.”
