Open Airways: register children in Student Asthma Registry
Parents of children with asthma are urged to include their children in the Student Asthma Registry in an effort to help ensure their safety.
A spokeswoman for Asthma charity Open Airways said that they were in the “final push” for registrations for the school year, stating that it was estimated that half of students with asthma have been put on the registry.
“The registry, which takes approximately two minutes to complete, is accessible online at https://bit.ly/2023BermudaStudentAsthmaRegistry and provides local asthma healthcare providers, as well as the ministries of Health and of Education, the ability to track and ensure proper supports are in place for students with asthma,” she said.
“All information provide is held as strictly confidential.
“If your child has asthma, or you suspect they might, please add their information to the 2023-2024 Bermuda Student Asthma Registry today.”
The registry is a collaborative effort of the Department of Education, the Department of Health, Bermuda Hospitals Board’s Asthma Education Centre and Open Airways.
Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, highlighted the importance of the registry when it was launched in late August
“The goal is to improve and assist students with asthma to have the healthiest year possible,” Ms Wilson said.
“Parents are asked to submit their information each September to ensure accuracy as the health, school and contact details of students can change.
“Registering annually also allows our asthma specialists to afford the most up-to-date assessment of affected students.”
