Charity celebrates birthday with 'heartfelt’ donation
An autism charity celebrated its 16th anniversary with an outreach project underscoring the importance of community service.
Clients of Tomorrow’s Voices’ Saturday Social Skills Group took part in discussions about community service and its potential to make a positive impact on society.
The attendees participated in a motorcade to the Sylvia Richardson Care Facility on October 28, where they made a donation of a “tea party in a box” to the residents.
Tomorrow’s Voices, an early intervention centre and adult day service programme for people with autism, curated the package, which included a china tea set, tea bags, cookies, jam and cream, as well as individual pictures created by the SSG clients for residents to display in their rooms.
The residents also received a larger, handcrafted canvas painting designed by the adult clients at Tomorrow’s Voices.
Jahnae Harvey, Tomorrow’s Voices senior behaviour therapist, emphasised that the charity’s mission extended beyond therapy and skill-building.
Dr Harvey said: “It's about nurturing a sense of empathy, compassion and responsibility among our SSG attendees.”
A charity spokeswoman added: “The event not only exemplified the dedication of Tomorrow's Voices to its cause but also served as a testament to the power of collective action.
“The residents of the Sylvia Richardson Care Facility were visibly moved by the thoughtful gesture and the warmth of the SSG participants.
“With a heartfelt celebration of their 16th anniversary, Tomorrow's Voices has set a shining example of how to build a better, more compassionate world through acts of service, one tea party at a time.”
