Reinsurance workers help at treatment centre project
An “energetic” group of volunteers picked up paintbrushes and tools and lent their support to a project that will turn a former church rectory into a residential treatment centre.
More than 30 members of staff from MS Reinsurance were involved at the old St James Church rectory in Sandys. They painted a building and landscaped the extensive grounds.
The renovation project will create a purpose-designed space for around-the-clock care for patients with long-term mental-health conditions.
It is spearheaded by Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda alongside the Anglican Church of Bermuda and the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute.
Habitat said: “The Habitat project managers and crew that were on site to give directions and ensure the safety of MS Reinsurance volunteers were amazed at how much was accomplished in just one day.
“We could not achieve what we accomplish without the corporate volunteers and we are particularly grateful for the commitment by MS Reinsurance for not only financial assistance, but this kind of hands-on participation.”
A spokesman for the company said: “MS Reinsurance appreciates the opportunity to work alongside Habitat for Humanity to build resources that support our community.
“We look forward to seeing the completion of this project to restore a historic Bermuda property while providing a much-needed housing solution. We encourage others to lend a hand as you are able.”
Sheelagh Cooper, the Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda chairwoman, added: “Habitat has a robust programme that involves corporates that want to make a hands-on difference and we generally work the timing of volunteer days to suit the company.”
