Products added to Quaker recall list
A recall of Quaker Oats products has been expanded over potential salmonella bacteria contamination.
Quaker Oatmeal Squares Cinnamon has been added to the list of items to avoid sent from Dunkley & Pioneer Dairies, the Bermuda distributor for the Quaker Oats Company.
It joins the list of other potentially-contaminated products, which includes Quaker Oatmeal Squares Brown Sugar.
Both products have “best before” dates of January 11 to January 24 and October 1 to October 24.
Buyers should also be wary of Quaker Chewy Yogurt Strawberry Bar and Oops All Berries cereal.
The products listed above are the only ones with potential contamination that were shipped to Bermuda, although other Quaker products have been identified as contaminated.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, seniors and those who are frail or have weakened immune systems.
Healthy people with salmonella infections often experience fever, diarrhoea that may be bloody, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
More serious infections can lead to arterial infections, infected aneurysms, endocarditis and arthritis.
Several other Quaker Oats products were recalled in December for similar reasons, and included Quaker Big Chewy Bars, Chewy Dipps, and a number of cereals.
The public has been advised to check their pantries for these specific items and discard them.
They can also return the products to the stores of purchase for a refund, provided that they have the original purchase receipt.
Customers can e-mail the Quaker customer service hotline at consumers.1800@pepsico.com for further information.
No other Quaker products have been affect. This recall does not include Quaker Oats, Quaker Instant Oats, Quaker Grits, Quaker Oat Bran, Quaker Oat Flour or Quaker Rice Snacks.
