Lindo’s to Lindo’s race set for March 3
The 25th annual Lindo’s to Lindo’s road race fundraiser is set for March 3, organisers announced on Monday.
Participants in the event ― a 10-kilometre run, 4-mile competitive walk and 4-mile fun walk and run ― will start at Lindo’s Family Foods in Warwick at 8.30am on March 3 and make their way to Lindo’s Market Devonshire in support of the Bermuda Diabetes Association.
The association believes that in addition to the 15 per cent incidence rate of the disease in the country, many more people may be at risk of pre-diabetes. It suggested that as many as eight out of ten adults “may be unaware of their condition and be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes within five years.”
“We are incredibly proud to be hosting the 25th Lindo’s to Lindo’s event to support the Bermuda Diabetes Association in its vital mission to safeguard Bermudians’ health,” said Zach Moniz, the manager of Lindo’s Family Foods.
“This is a wonderful, family friendly event and we are touched that so many people have made it an annual event. We hope to see lots of new faces and familiar ones along the route and we look forward to another 25 more years of Lindo’s to Lindo’s.”
Lori Rockhead, the BDA executive director, said the organisation was “thrilled to partner with Lindo’s in commemorating the 25th anniversary of the race”.
“We eagerly anticipate an outpouring of community participation based on this year’s special milestone,” she said. “The association views the walk/run as a golden opportunity to champion health and wellness within our community.
“The BDA deeply appreciates Lindo’s enduring support over the years, and we encourage everyone to join us to celebrate on March 3,” she added.
At the event, which is organised by the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club and sanctioned by the Bermuda National Athletics Association, prizes will be awarded to the overall three fastest men and women in the competitive run along with two from the Junior, Open, Masters, Senior Master, Veteran and Experienced Veteran categories.
On Saturday March 2, the first 800 participants to uplift their number will receive a goodie bag and an event T-shirt sponsored by Argus. Number pick-up will be between 9.30am and 12.00pm at the Bermuda Diabetes Centre, 22 Princess Street in Hamilton.
