Black smoke briefly rises from KEMH owing to boiler issue

A steam-boiler issue resulted in black smoke from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital shortly after 9 this morning.
Responding to questions from The Royal Gazette, the Bermuda Hospitals Board said Paget Health Services, which manages the boiler system in KEMH’s Acute Care Wing, turned off the boilers and addressed the problem, and they were working properly before 10am.
The issue did not affect patient care at the facility.
